Opening Principles
Long-form design writing needs a deliberate rhythm. The page should slow the reader down without feeling static, using a stable measure, soft contrast, and clear section markers to create a sense of orientation.
Systems and Constraints
Constraints give the system its character. A narrow column, a repeated image interval, and a fixed table of contents all become useful boundaries that make the article easier to edit, scan, and remember.
Material and Detail
Images should arrive as punctuation, not interruption. When an image is set, it becomes a visual pause in the argument. When it is empty, the layout closes the gap and keeps the essay moving.
What to Carry Forward
The default structure is only a starting point. Add sections when the argument needs another turn; remove them when the writing becomes stronger by becoming shorter.
